Saddle Up for the Redding Rodeo Parade!

The Redding Rodeo Parade boasts a rich history dating back to 1949. That's when it debuted as the "Shasta County Sheriff's Posse Rodeo Parade." Later, in 1958, the Asphalt Cowboys took over organizing it. This allowed the Sheriff's Posse to concentrate solely on the rodeo itself.

Starting with just shy of 200 entries, these days, it has blossomed to up to 250 entrants. They pour in from all across Northern California to participate. In the early years, competitors vied in 32 categories. Now, entrants have 52 broader classes to enter, all offering coveted prizes and trophies.

As with most rodeo parades of old, professional cowboys would strut their stuff fresh off riding in the rodeo. You'd also see the standard mix of marching bands, ornamented floats, and dancing majorettes. Those first parades even featured big-name Western stars serving as celebrity Grand Marshals.

While holding onto beloved traditions, today's incarnation now spotlights mostly local non-professional riders. The ceremonial Grand Marshal title goes to an esteemed regional citizen.

Be part of this parade’s storied history and legacy - we’ll make room for you!
