“LABELS” OPENING RECEPTION

The Shasta County Arts Council gallery at Old City Hall hosts “Labels.”

Funded by California Creative Corps grant program, the exhibition stems from work lead by artists who spoke to the community on current social issues.

Christine Mac Shane’s hope was to put together an exhibition and documentary that reminded us all that those faced with the hardships of life, like homelessness, are only a step away from ourselves.

The team spent several months providing art and writing workshops at the Jesus Center, Boys and Girls Club and Genesis Shelters in Butte County, while putting together the documentary and exhibit – “Labels.”

These are the stories of people in our community. Some are currently homeless or have temporary housing. Some have recovered or are recovered from being unhoused and a few have skirted the edge. Their stories are not far from many others, except for a twist of fate.

The documentary produced for this project by Chris Smith will be screened on Friday, October 4 at 6:30 pm.
