Christmas is a magical time of year, and there’s no better place to spend the holidays than in picturesque Redding in Northern California.

Whether it’s Christmas trees, carols, lights, parades, or markets that put you in the festive spirit, Redding has it all.

If you’re wondering how to keep the kids engaged as the cooler weather sets in, check out all the fun activities and must-see events surrounding Christmas in Redding.

Christmas Events in Redding, CA


When: December 2nd, 7 PM

Where: 1500 Market and Yuba Street

Redding’s annual Christmas Tree Lighting joins First Fridays in Downtown to present what’s sure to be one of the most festive community gatherings of the year.

Come early to tour Kool April Nites’ Classic Christmas Car Display located on the 1500 block of Market Street in downtown Redding from 5 PM – 7:15 PM.

Sip, shop, and eat your with around Downtown Redding’s local shops and restaurants to take in all that First Friday has to offer. Be sure to check out the First Friday event page for a complete list of places to visit, special hours, and hot deals—for one night only!

Gather ’round the Christmas tree at 6:30 PM to enjoy Enterprise High School Victorian Carolers singing Christmas carols until the tree’s lighting at 7 PM.



When: December 3rd, 2022, 6 PM

Where: Downtown Redding

Looking for Christmas lights in Redding? Look no further than Redding’s Lighted Christmas Parade, a local holiday tradition since the early 80s. And the 41st annual parade promises to be as spectacular as ever.

This year, the floats are observing the theme “All Aboard the Ornament Express.” Don’t miss out on all the fun, fair, music, dance, marching bands, and shimmering lights in what has become one of the most anticipated annual events in Redding.

The parade starts on the corner of California and Tehama streets, traveling south on California before heading east on Sacramento, north on Pine, and finishing with an east turn on Yuba. Be aware there will be several road closures in the area.

When: Wednesdays to Sundays, November 18th – January 8th (closed Thanksgiving, Christmas Day, New Year’s Eve, and New Year’s Day)

Where: Turtle Bay Exploration Park

Cost: Adults $22, Children (5-15) $15, ages 0-4 free

Lighting up the sky with over one million globes across 10 acres of winding paths, the Redding Garden of Lights is a truly breathtaking display that utterly dazzles your senses.

Your exploration begins at the Sundial Bridge and leads you through artfully illuminated and engaging displays celebrating the worlds of flora and fauna unique to Redding.

There’s plenty of music and festive cheer to enjoy as well as food and beverages on offer. Keep an eye out for Santa’s reindeer, and don’t miss the s’mores at one of the fire pits scattered throughout the park.

When: December 1st – December 4th

Where: Cascade Theatre

Cost: Adults $25, Students $12, Child $6.

This song and dance extravaganza is one of Redding’s great yuletide traditions.

Cascade Christmas follows a tour group of Christmas “super fans” who travel to the North Pole for the first-ever public tour of Santa’s workshop. On arrival, they meet Jasper, a grumpy elf who has never left the North Pole and feels like he doesn’t fit in.

It’s a tale of discovery, hope, and acceptance to warm your soul and fill your little ones’ hearts with the Christmas spirit.

The Thursday and Friday night sessions are at 7:30 PM, with a midday matinee on Saturday and a 2 PM show on Sunday. Book tickets here.


There’s plenty more Christmas cheer to be had at the Cascade Theatre with the following shows:

  • December 11th – North State Symphony Holiday POPS: Soprano Daun Weiss leads the North State Symphony in this family-friendly spectacular year-end Christmas concert with all your favorites. Tickets from $22.
  • December 14th – Switchfoot “This is our Christmas” Tour: San Diego’s alt-rock quintet put their own spin on Christmas with a unique brand of high-energy music. Tickets from $45.
  • December 16th – 17th – ‘The Nutcracker’ presented by Redding City Ballet: Be enchanted by the timeless story and score of this Tchaikovsky classic about Clara and her Nutcracker Prince. Tickets from $25 for adults and $15 for children.
  • December 18th – ‘Christmas in Hawai’i” presented by Jake Shimabukuro: With a ukulele by his side, Jake takes you on a sincere and magical journey of Christmas songs with a very aloha flavor, ably supported by bassist Jackson Waldhoff and singer-songwriter Justin Kawika Young. Tickets from $25.
  • December 19th and 21st – ‘The Polar Express’ presented by the California Dance Company: Board the Polar Express as one of Christmas’s most loved contemporary stories is brought to life by a vibrant young cast of 400 dancers. Tickets from $10.
  • December 20th – Tomáseen Foley’s ‘A Celtic Christmas’: Some of the world’s finest Irish musicians and dancers will wow you in this recreation of the tale of the night before Christmas in the west of 1940s Ireland. Tickets from $33.


When: November 30th – December 17th

Where: Riverfront Playhouse, 1950 California Street

Cost: $15 Preview Night (11/30), $20 Sunday Matinee, $25 all other shows

You won’t want to miss this Christmas comedy by Don Hodgins at Redding’s most long-standing community theatre, Riverfront Playhouse.

Directed by Carolyn Murray, this delightful play is sure to spark a little Christmas spirit as the audience follows the story of a mysterious stranger named Mr. Smith who delivers cheerful light to a dark place. Tickets from $15.


When: December 9th, 6 – 9 PM

Where: The Makery, 1943 Pine Street

Immerse yourself in the excitement and vibe of The Makery’s first holiday night market!

Resplendent with local artisans, makers, and featuring Redding’s best small businesses, you’ll be able to top up your holiday shop at The Makery.

Enjoy the Christmas cheer as live music, fire pits, and festivities help you make the most of your market experience.

While you’re there, you can dine out on the mouth-watering BBQ, great local coffee, grilled cheese, and more.


When: December 10th, 9 AM

Where: Starts at Lake Redding Park Pavilion, 2225 Benton Drive

Cost: $49 for 12Ks or $33 adults/$19 children 14 and under for 2 Turtle Dove Mile (plus sign-up fee)

Get into some festive fitness fun and ho, ho, ho as you blow, blow, blow.

There are two courses to choose from. The 12Ks of Christmas course, which is, you guessed it, 12 kilometers or 7.45 miles long. If that’s a stretch, try the 2 Turtle Dove Mile track, a much friendlier two miles.

There are awards and custom-made medals for the top three finishers in each age group, plenty of music, and heaps of Christmas fun.

When: November 21st – January 15th

Where: Oasis Fun Center, 3330 Cascade Boulevard.

Cost: $12 booked online or $14 for walk-ins.

The only thing more fun than mini-golf is mini-golf with Christmas lights—even the golf balls are lit!

Test your skill on our two illuminated 18-hole courses, then kill off your hunger with delicious pork sliders and chili bowls.

You can even enjoy a s’more around fire pits. A hole-in-one has never been so much fun! Tickets are $12 per player if reserved here.


When: From November 1st

Where: Lassen National Forest

Cost: Permits are $10 per tree with a limit of two trees per house

Is there anything that says Christmas more than harvesting your own tree? This unique and wonderful Christmas adventure is available at Lassen National Forest.

You’ll need a permit before you go, and make sure the cutting area you are eyeing is available because there are no refunds.

This year, Lassen National Forest permits must be purchased in person (not available in Redding) or by mail.

You can mail a request form here or buy one in person from one of the following locations in Chester, Susanville, Fall River Mills, or Old Station. If you’re seeking a permit in person, call the station in advance to ensure they’re open.

Cost: Varies depending upon tree selection. Cash only (ATM is available on site).

Don’t want to cut down your own tree? No problem. The Simonis family has done the hard work for you. You’re sure to find the perfect tree at their Churn Creek Road location.

Whether you want to have your tree pre-lit or flocked, the Simonis lot does it all.
