“What is there to do in Redding?” Well, how much time do you have, and how much do you like long lists? Because we could go on and on. For starters, Forbes said we were the only west coast city among the top ten trout fishing destinations in the country, and the San Francisco Chronicle called us the ‘Gem of the U.S. trail system.’ Then there’s our world-renowned Sundial Bridge, nearby state and national parks, and a downtown scene with live music, dining, performances, and public art. Art and science exhibits at Turtle Bay Exploration Park inspire all ages, and 300 sunny days per year mean just about every weekend has some sort of race, festival, or event. Add in our lakes and waterfalls, bike shops and SUP rentals, and you’ll have a hard time deciding where to begin.

Consider this your ‘basics list’ of everything there is to see and do in Redding. You need to see the world’s largest sundial of course, which also happens to be beautiful and quite useful as the hub of Redding’s trail system. Dams may not strike you as vacation essentials, but once you take the free tour at Shasta Dam, you’ll realize just how cool ours is. Speaking of cool: the memorable Lake Shasta Caverns are the best place to go in the hot summer months, and stay nice and dry in rainy weather. Whiskeytown National Recreation Area has waterfalls, beaches, and ranger programs (moonlight kayaking, anyone?), and Turtle Bay Exploration Park has wild animal shows, a playground, and even a maze, plus their aquarium and rotation of new exhibits. Redding also offers waterslides in the summer, and is a short drive to snowy fun in the winter. So, if these are just the basics, can you imagine how much fun you’re going to have?!
