Description: This paved trail stretches 10.7 miles between Keswick and Shasta Dam. There is also access from the Rock Creek Trailhead and Keswick Boat Ramp Trailhead. Hop aboard! Much of this trail is atop the bed of the former Central Pacific Railroad. This route was the main railroad connecting the Pacific Coast States. Portions wre abandoned in preparation for the development of Shasta Dam. Much still parallels the course of the Sacramentp River. However, some of the railroad bed was swallowed by Keswick Reservoir. So expects some hills, dips, and curves in the constructed southern section of the trail (dubbed "The Roller Coaster" by local users.) In addition to the many views of the water and dams, enjoy the railroad tunnel located between motion creek and Shata Dam.
