Colossal Big Bike Weekend Takes over Redding, California’s Trail Capital, October 14 – 16, 2016

In Partnership Shasta Living Streets, the FREE Three-Day Event Includes a Police Escorted Remembrance Ride,  Drag Racing, a Burn-Out Contest, As Well As Activities for Bicycle Enthusiasts, Contests, Tours, and a Strongman Competition

Redding, CA – June, 2016 – Bikes come in such a variety of forms and functions that Redding decided it was easier – and more fun! – to invite them all to town for one exciting weekend! Whether your bike has an engine or a fixed speed, high handle bars or fat tires, a leather seat or a basket and a bell, you’ll need to clear your schedule for Big Bike Weekend, October 14-16, 2016, sponsored by Win-River Resort & Casino. Sign up and get your rooms and RV spaces booked now as more than 5,000 bikers are expected to take over the town for this colossal annual event. But that’s not all.

“Redding is proud to be the official home of Big Bike Weekend,” says Kallie Markle of the Redding Convention and Visitors Bureau. “We offer a variety of biking and cycling opportunities for our visitors, including road and mountain biking championships, and motorcycle races and events at the Shasta Speedway. The public comes out in droves to support the bikers and cyclists and celebrate the two-wheeled lifestyle, in whatever form it takes.”

There are several exciting facets to this FREE three-day event, offering something for everyone who loves to ride. Motorcycle riders and fans will appreciate the main event at Redding’s Win-River Casino, where they can see hundreds of big bikes, shop vendors, and enjoy music and entertainment. Bikers are encouraged to go a little crazy at the burn-out contest at Shasta Speedway and the street legal drags at the Redding Drag Strip. Music lovers can rock out to well-known biker bands like the Charlie Brechtel Band, whose music was featured on an episode of the FX series “Sons of Anarchy.” It’s not all leather chaps and loud engines, either: bicycle riders can participate in special rides and events designed just for them. Everyone will want to check out the exhibitors found inside the resort’s convention center and along Redding Rancheria Road. There’s even a Strongman Contest sanctioned by United States Strongman, Inc. The event is FREE to all spectators and guaranteed fun. The Win-River Resort also has RV spaces for those who like to trailer their rides.

GLORIOUS OCTOBER WEATHER
This event has perfect timing for road and trail warriors, as October in Redding is a gift straight from the gods. The summer has waned and Redding’s famous perma-sunshine sparkles on the river and flashes through trees as your bike zooms through scenic mountain trails. Long evenings offer opportunities to take the bike out through picturesque backcountry roads, and mild days make it easy to enjoy Big Bike Weekend’s many activities…or ditch the bikers and join some hikers at Whiskeytown Falls. Visitors can also trade the leather jacket for a life jacket and take one of Redding’s kayak tours or even SUP yoga – perfect for stretching out those sore handlebar shoulders. In between all the events and rides, the city serves up its usual assortment of wineries, breweries, dining, and live entertainment.

REMEMBRANCE RIDES
Motorcyclists can enter the police escorted Remembrance Ride on Friday. Participants can enjoy food and drink during a special mixer while staging. The Remembrance Ride, created post 9/11, will honor fallen first responders. On Saturday, a special ride for veterans takes place during the Veterans Honor Ride/Poker Run. Riders will enjoy wood fired pizza and a chance to win $10,000.

BICYCLING
Bicyclists are invited to ride in the bike show competition on Saturday, and the ride to eastern Shasta County on Sunday for a wonderful, all-you-can-eat breakfast. They can also head to downtown Redding to enjoy additional activities hosted by Shasta Living Streets. On Saturday, the Shasta Wheelmen will hold their jamboree rides and Shasta Living Streets will be focusing on trail activities.

MUSIC, FOOD AND MORE FUN!
Besides the usual Redding recreation, Big Bike Weekend offers special activities including contests, vendors, competitions, tours, live music, and dancing. And camaraderie of course! BBW has that in spades. Raffle Runs, Show & Shines, Ladies Rides, Bike Show competitions, fundraisers, and The Cal-Neva Competition Series that features police motor riders. Enjoy the sounds of popular biker bands like The Charlie Brechtel Band, an international all original motorcycle touring band, homegrown country rock musician Adrian Taylor, and local favorite, Sami Jo. The Wicked Wahines, a local mother and daughter dance team, will entertain with their amazing dance moves influenced by tribal cultures. The Strongman Competition, sanctioned by United States Strongman Inc., is open to all weight classes. Events include: IronMind Axel Squat to Plyo Boxes, Natural Log Clean Once/Press Away, Last Athlete Standing Texas Bar Tire Dead Lift, and a possible Wild Card event.
